MYAN Projects

The Maine Youth Action Network works on various projects and events throughout the year so make sure to check back at this page every once in awhile to see what we are working on!

An Expanded Network

MYAN is expanding its network of individuals and groups around Maine who are making a difference!  This will result in MYAN having an improved capacity to connect YOU to the ideas and experiences of other groups doing similar work and to new resources & tools.  Haven't joined the Network yet? Annual Peer Leadership Conference

Each fall, MYAN partners with Maine youth to plan and host an inspiring two days of workshops, activities, training and team building for over 400 youth and advisors working to make a difference! Network with other groups and learn about local and statewide initiatives and resources that can support your peer program in the areas of adolescent heath, skill development, advocacy and action planning.

Annual Stop. Quit. Resist! Anti-Tobacco Youth Summit

This annual spring event helps young people join together and become more effective advocates in the fight against tobacco. A youth planning team is critical to the success of the Summit!

Youth/Adult Partnership Training & Technical Support

Tap into MYAN’s experience partnering with youth, and learn how shared power and decision-making can improve your program! MYAN staff are available by phone or email for individual technical assistance to answer your questions, provide you with resources, or connect you with other similar programs for peer support.

Healthy Maine Partnership’s Youth Advocacy Programs (HMP’s YAP)

MYAN offers training, technical assistance, networking and resources to strengthen Healthy Maine Partnership peer programs, helping them to develop advocacy skills to create policy and environmental change.

MYAN News to Use E-Newsletter

Our E-newsletter is published four times during the school year and features adolescent health and peer program skills topics and includes a special focus on physical activity, nutrition, and anti-tobacco advocacy.  Sign up to start getting News to Use.

Youth Leadership Roles in the Network

We strongly believe in the power of youth and adult partnerships.  Because of this value, youth hold leadership roles in all of MYAN's work.  Some examples of this include: youth co-facilitators of trainings and conference workshops, youth planning, guidance and participation in our work, youth articles for newsletters, youth staff positions and stipend opportunities and more!  Check out the Get Involved page to find out how YOU can have a role at MYAN!

Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program

MYAN has been working with the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program (MYSPP) since 2000. Within those years we have partnered with youth from all over the state to create products and materials and conducted research that serves to help reduce youth suicide in our state.

Maine School Based Health Centers

MYAN is currently partnering with the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care (SBHC) to engage youth in strengthening and sustaining Maine school-based health centers.

Maine State Board of Education

This year MYAN will be supporting the State Board of Education's initiative to add two youth members and to strengthen Maine's infrastructure for involving youth in educational policy.
