"Guard your light and protect it. Move it forward into the world and be fully confident that if we connect light to light to light, and join the lights together of the one billion young people in our world today, we will be enough to set our whole planet aglow."

Featured Story: Lincoln Academy Climate Action Club & the First Here, Then Everywhere Network

The Lincoln Academy Climate Action Club, led by Chloe Maxmin, Alex Hadik and Climate Action Club picture
Jeanette Schaible is an amazing group doing proactive work to raise awareness about and take action on environmental issues. The Climate Action Club is currently making news as a winner of the Best Buy Foundation's @15 Community Impact Challenge grant competition, which is sponsored by Youth Venture. The Climate Action Club's "venture" objective is to monitor power consumption and install solar panels throughout the Newcastle community as part of global warming awareness program which has already sold town-wide reusable bags, obtained a no-idling vehicle policy in the high school parking lot, and collected batteries and ink cartridges for recycling. Congrats to the Climate Action Club for winning this $5,000 grant to do some amazing work in the Newcastle area!

And the members of the Climate Action Club don't stop there! Chloe also founded First Here, Then Everywhere (FHTE), an online network for young environmentalists, in 2007. The mission of FHTE is to unite these young activists by

  1. providing a place where they can connect/collaborate and
  2. by featuring outstanding examples of youth environmentalists around the world.
FHTE has grown steadily and they are always looking for more young environmentalists to connect with, showcase on the website, and integrate into the global network. Their next project,
GoDu Networks (http://goduit.org/, which is still in development), is to expand the services of FHTE by providing support tools environmentalists around the world so they can track each others' progress on certain campaigns and download toolkits on how to run different types of environmental initiatives. Check out the First Here, Then Everywhere website to learn more.
