What's it All About?Lucky Strikes

The Maine Youth Leadership Summit is a two-day overnight event that will gather together approximately 300 Maine youth in grades 7-12 and their adult partners who are working together to create positive change.

The Maine Youth Leadership Summit is tailored to meet the needs of all participants by providing them opportunities to build stronger teams, grow as leaders and advocates, and learn about the health & wellness issues that matter most to them. Attending youth groups will leave this event feeling empowered, engaged, and committed to their goals for making lasting and measurable changes in their communities. The cost of registration is $80 per person, which includes lunch and dinner on November 1st, hotel occupancy on the evening of the 1st, breakfast & lunch on the 2nd, and all event activities.

    Why Should I Attend?

The Youth Leadership & Advocacy Summit brings together all of the skill-building, resource sharing, and networking opportunities that MYAN formerly made available through the Peer Leadership Conference and the Anti-Tobacco Summit, but in a unified two-day format that will enhance the depth and breadth of learning opportunities. Participants will:

    • develop skills that will strengthen theirs groups and make them more effective leaders & advocates in their communities

    •  gain information, resources, and connections through workshops on a variety of teen health topics, including tobacco prevention, substance abuse prevention, gambling awareness, physical activity & nutrition, safe school climates, and many more health and wellness topics!

    • gain the skills to create specific and measurable goals that will help groups to achieve lasting change to support healthier communities across the state of Maine!
All groups who attend the event will participate in workshops specialized on the topics of youth leadership and advocacy skills, tobacco prevention, substance abuse prevention, and physical activity and nutrition promotion. Select youth attendees can also sign-up to attend an advanced workshop on anti-tobacco advocacy and gain the opportunity to participate on the  Youth Council on Tobacco Policy. This is a new initiative designed to support youth engagement & youth leadership in anti-tobacco policy change efforts across the state. Learn more about the benefits to youth and groups engaged in tobacco prevention work here!

Look out for all that's new this year at the Summit:

    • Roundtable sessions to connect with teen health resources
    • Panel discussion featuring folks who have made an impact
    • Dress up and attend the red carpet movie premiere of Addiction Inc!
    • "Make an Impact" workshops where participants will learn the essentials of how to create change on Tobacco, Substance Abuse and Nutrition
    • Action Planning REVAMP: learn HOW to pull together the youth and adults in your community to make a plan for action. We won’t create the plans at the event, just teach you the skills to do it when you’re back home.

    Volunteer at the Summit

Get inspired by the incredible energy and passion of our event participants by joining us as a volunteer.  We rely on volunteers to help us manage every part of the two day event, from registering attendees, to assisting workshop presenters with setting up their technology, to supporting youth in skill-building during workshops and activities.  If you’d like to volunteer, please complete this brief survey by October 5th or contact Beth Yvonne, MYAN Director with questions at beth.yvonne@opportunityalliance.org or 553-5915.
